Kevin Payne is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who serves families and individuals with quality, evidence based counseling. Kevin graduated from Christian Life College in 1993 with a B.A. in Theology. In 1999 he completed his M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Western Seminary and began his career in Stockton, CA. While working for Alpine Counseling Center, he worked closely with the San Joaquin County Victims of Crime program. While in Stockton, Kevin was an adjunct faculty member of Christian Life College, where he taught Intro to Counseling, General Psychology, Educational Psychology, Sociology and Principles of Counseling.
In 2007 Kevin and his family moved from Stockton to Goodlettsville, on the north side of Nashville, TN. Kevin has continued to work with families, offering crisis intervention as well as training in life skills. Both in Stockton and in Nashville, he has facilitated groups in the areas of grief, anger, couples communication and divorce recovery.
Kevin has been married to Laura Demos-Payne since 1996. Kevin and Laura are parents to 3 boys, which they adopted in 2005. Together they share a passion for adoption and are working hard to bring up three outstanding young men. Laura is a dynamic speaker and often joins Kevin in marriage and family seminars.
Kevin has worked to meet the needs of his community for many years. He has worked in conjunction with various churches and community organizations.
Specialty areas include: child counseling, parenting issues, grief counseling, stress and anger management, depression, anxiety adopted families and co-dependency.
Kevin also has a passion to assist pastors' with tools to build healthy families in their church. Kevin currently travels throughout the United States conducting family seminars and marriage retreats. For a full list of available workshops, please check out the seminar page. He has also conducted Meyers-Briggs Temperament Inventory (MBTI) workshops and can assist leadership teams, couples or staff groups in applying this valuable insight to their relationships.
Theoretical Orientation
Kevin's theoretical orientation in counseling could be described as integrative. He is primarrily utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy and more specifically Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. He also incorporates some Positive Psychology also some Emotionally Focused Therapy with families.
